End Israeli Apartheid Week – April 2018
Join our Protest 12 Noon, Saturday 21 April in Garema Place, Canberra City
At first, we planned this rally as a protest on the theme No Way to Treat a Child, focussing on Israel’s arrest and subsequent imprisonment of 17 year old Ahed Tamimi. Ahed is amongst over 350 Palestinian children held in Israeli prisons.
But since early April, more than 28 Palestinians have been killed and nearly 1000 wounded as Israeli snipers, supported by tanks, drones and other weapons, attacked many thousands of Gazans as they demonstrated along the Gaza-Israel border on Palestinians’ Land Day. Journalist Yasser Murtaja was just one of those killed.
Gazans seek to assert their Right of Return to their own lands – a right for which they have international authority under a United Nations Security Council Resolution, which Israel has ignored with impunity for almost 70 years. Israel’s siege of Gaza makes life impossible for Gazans and the UN has said that Gaza will be unlive-able in just a few years time.
We call for an end to the siege of Gaza, the killing of Gazans, the arrest of Palestinian children, the demolition of Palestinian homes, the restriction of free movement, collective punishment of Palestinians – all just part of the Israeli apartheid system.
Israeli Apartheid Week is observed worldwide this month in support of Palestine. The late Nelson Mandela, as well as Desmond Tutu, former US President Jimmy Carter and others, have all described Israel as an Apartheid State, worse than South Africa ever was.
WE CANNOT BE SILENT! – Join us in Garema Place on 21 April!
This event is being organised by Australians for Justice and Peace in Palestine and the Independent and Peaceful Australia Network in observance of End Israeli Apartheid Week.
