Palm Sunday rally for refugees – Sydney

The Palm Sunday rally for refugees for 2017, will be held at 2pm Sunday 25 March at Belmore Park, Hay St. Haymarket.
Over the last few years there have been nationwide rallies on Palm Sunday for refugee rights. In Sydney the rally is again being organised by a broad coalition including Sydney Peace & Justice Coalition, Refugee Action Coalition, unions, church groups and other refugee rights groups.
The Turnbull government is continuing to whip up fear about refugees in an effort to recover its electoral support—even expanding to new targets such as African migrants and refugees.
After using metal bars, fists and knives, PNG immigration and police forced refugees on Manus out of the old detention centre late last year. But refugees on both Manus Island and Nauru remain in serious danger. Locals have held repeated protests and blockades against the new camps on Manus Island, and the level of medical care has been drastically reduced.
It’s time to end the cruelty and scaremongering against refugees. It is urgent that the Australian government take responsibility for the refugees on Manus Island and Nauru and Bring Them Here immediately. And it needs to welcome all refugees and provide fair processing and a secure future.
The drums of war are beating louder, especially for a possible nuclear war over the political crisis on the Korean Peninsula. War creates millions of new refugees. Nuclear war could destroy the world as we know it.
Its time to stand up for refugees, justice, peace and unity!
