A strong voice from the Pacific on AUKUS and nuclear submarines – 5 minute video message

Listen to Maureen Penjueli, Coordinator of the Pacific Network on Globalisation (PANG), and based in Fiji.

Maureen talks about the recent AUKUS announcement and nuclear submarine decision – to say that Australia should be put on ‘notice’ at the Pacific Islands Forum as a Party to the Rarotonga Treaty. The Pacific Ocean is not a dumping ground nor a nuclear highway. The Pacific maintains a strong Nuclear Free Pacific position. Our countries position with China is nuanced and we are friends to all, enemies to none. China is not our enemy, but AUKUS risks the entire Pacific in a potential war with China not of our making.
