MEDIA RELEASE                  FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
3 October 2024

IPAN Public Meeting Friday 4 October, 6 pm, Perth Library

*       Senator Fatima Payman to speak at Public Meeting in Perth
Sleepwalking into War? Breaking the US stranglehold on
Australia: Peace or War?
*      Senator Fatima Payman to also speak at Press Conference
Friday 4 October, 10.30 am, Supreme Court Gardens, Perth

Senator Fatima Payman will be one of the key speakers at a public meeting on Friday night to open the national conference of the Independent and Peaceful Australia Network (IPAN) on Friday night, where AUKUS and its implications and the current conflicts around the world will be front and centre in conversations.

Senator Payman:

“Australia claims to uphold human rights, but what good are these claims when this Labor government chooses to ignore the ongoing ethnic cleansing of Palestinians? When it sends warm handshakes and quiet approvals to a regime responsible for the murder of thousands, and when it does nothing but issue meaningless statements while blood flows in the streets of Gaza and now in
the ruins of Lebanon?”

“This is what happens when the Labor government refuses to sanction and cut ties with the state of Israel – giving this so-called friend absolute impunity and the green-light to continue to conduct itself in a manner that’s contrary to international humanitarian law.”

“With strong and bold leadership, Australia could be an independent and peaceful nation with its own foreign policy and control over its own defence capabilities and be the exemplary champion for human rights, democracy and peace.”

Senator Payman will also speak at a Press Conference in Perth, Friday 4 Oct,10.30 am, to be held at the Supreme Court Gardens, Perth; along with Dr Carmen Lawrence, Senator Jordon Steele-John and Professor Lisa Natividad.

Public Meeting Friday 4 October, 6 pm at the Perth Library with Senator Fatima Payman, Dr Carmen Lawrence, Professor Lisa Natividad and Senator Jordon Steele-John; Wakeley Award Winning Journalist Sophie McNeill will be the MC.
