Hugely successful event with 800 people – ‘Settler colonialism’: What it can tell us about the conflict in Israel/Palestine’.
With just two days’ notice, Adelaide University informed the Association for the Promotion of International Law (APIL) that Elder Hall was no longer available for their Constellations: Not Writers’ Week event Settler colonialism’: What it can tell us about the conflict in Israel/Palestine which featured Francesca Albanese, Chris Sidoti, Professor Henry Reynolds and Lana Tatour. While they may deny it, this decision by Adelaide University looks like part of a wider pattern: events featuring Francesca Albanese have been cancelled , and critical conversations about Palestine have been pushed out of public spaces. This is what repression looks like – and exactly why we must show up.
APIL secured an alternative venue with greater capacity at Norwood Concert Hall and 800 people attended in person and around 330 online.
You can watch the video of the event here.
Thanks to all who attended. As the speakers said, one of the most important things we can do at this time is to KEEP TURNING UP.
Warm regards,

GREAT NEWS! – Palestine Action Ban Unlawful, rules UK court
The UK High Court has overturned the government’s ban on Palestine Action under anti-terrorism laws. In a case brought by the co-founder of Palestine Action, Huda Ammouri, the judges ruled against the proscription of Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation. Following the proscription of Palestine Action under terror legislation, which makes it illegal to express support for the group, punishable by 14 years in prison, the police have arrested more than 2,000 peaceful protestors carrying signs reading “I oppose genocide, I support Palestine Action.”
NSW anti-protest laws were rushed through to keep the peace. They’ve failed, Ben Saul, SMH, 10 February 2026.
Private Prosecution Filed in Australia Against Isaac Herzog for Genocide and Crimes Against Humanity
A landmark private prosecution has commenced in Australia following a joint complaint submitted to the Australian government by the Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF), the Jewish Council of Australia, and the Australian National Imams Council (ANIC) concerning the conduct of Isaac Herzog.
Lawyers representing Melbourne academic Tasnim Sammak have now formally filed a charge sheet before the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria, accusing President Herzog of eight grave offences under Australian law, including genocide and crimes against humanity.
HRF has announced that it will seek leave to intervene as amicus curiae (friend of the court) should proceedings advance, underscoring its position that head-of-state immunity cannot shield individuals from accountability for the gravest international crimes.

Palestine Action Group statement on the Bondi beach attack
We are shocked and absolutely horrified by the terrorist attack at Bondi beach, which targeted the Jewish community on the first day of Hanukkah. Our thoughts are with all those who have suffered due to this appalling attack, with the families of all the dead, and especially with the Jewish community. No one, anywhere in Sydney or anywhere in the world, should have to live in fear of terrorism or racist hate.
We salute the heroic actions of Ahmed al Ahmed, who bravely tackled and disarmed one of the gunmen, saving countless lives, and being shot twice in the process.
We reiterate our complete condemnation of antisemitism and all other forms of racism. For years, we have stood and marched in our hundreds of thousands, side by side with members of the Jewish community, to fight for a world free of racist violence and oppression, from Sydney to Gaza. Antisemitism has never had any place in our movement, nor in the world we want to live in.
In this context, we are utterly shocked and appalled to see the comments by Antisemitism Envoy Jillian Segal, seeking to exploit this tragedy to try to blame it on the March for Humanity, which saw 300,000 people, including thousands of Jewish people, march peacefully together to oppose genocide and racism.
We must not let Israeli politicians, Segal, or the far right, turn this tragedy into further racist hate.

Blame Grief and Responsibility after Bondi: “In the aftermath of a devastating attack on Sydney’s Jewish community, political leaders must resist the urge to weaponise grief or assign blame. It is far too early to make any meaningful comment about the utter devastation and cruelty suffered by Sydney’s Jewish community as they celebrated Hanukkah. But it is not too early to respond to the disgracefully self-serving, patronising rant from the Israeli Prime Minister and to a lesser degree from the Israeli president as they sheeted blame for the atrocity on Prime Minister Albanese and Australian leadership in general…”article by former Anglican Bishop George Browning in Pearls and Irritations, Dec 16, 2025.

Summary
The ongoing genocide in Gaza is a collective crime, sustained by the complicity of influential Third States that have enabled longstanding systemic violations of international law by Israel. Framed by colonial narratives that dehumanize the Palestinians, this live- streamed atrocity has been facilitated through Third States’ direct support, material aid, diplomatic protection and, in some cases, active participation. It has exposed an unprecedented chasm between peoples and their governments, betraying the trust on which global peace and security rest. The world now stands on a knife-edge between the collapse of the international rule of law and hope for renewal. Renewal is only possible if complicity is confronted, responsibilities are met and justice is upheld.
